Rich text editor

The rich text editor is PasteBase's most versatile editor, built on TipTap. It's designed for content that needs visual formatting — email templates, canned responses, onboarding documents, and any text where bold, links, and lists make the content more useful. When you copy a rich text paste, the formatting is preserved, so pasting into an email client or word processor keeps your styling intact.

Formatting toolbar

The rich text editor includes a toolbar at the top of the editing area with all the formatting tools you need:

  • Bold and italic — Emphasize key words or phrases. Select text and click the bold or italic button, or use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+B and Ctrl+I (Cmd+B and Cmd+I on Mac).
  • Lists — Create bulleted or numbered lists for step-by-step instructions, feature lists, or any structured content.
  • Links — Add hyperlinks to any selected text. A dialog lets you enter the URL, and the link is embedded directly in your paste.
  • Text color — Change the color of selected text to add visual emphasis or match your brand guidelines.
  • Highlight — Apply a background highlight to selected text to make key information stand out.

Perfect for email templates

The rich text editor really shines when you're creating email templates or canned responses. You can format your greeting, body, and sign-off exactly the way you want them to appear in the recipient's inbox. Add links to resources, bold important details, and use lists to break down next steps — then copy the whole thing with one click and paste it directly into your email client.

Because the formatting carries over when you paste, you don't have to re-apply bold, links, or other styling every time you use the template. It's ready to send.

Working with the editor

The editor works like any modern word processor. Click to place your cursor, type to add text, and select text to apply formatting. You can also paste content from other sources — the editor will do its best to preserve the original formatting while cleaning up any unnecessary markup.

There's no auto-save, so make sure to click the save button when you're done editing. If you navigate away without saving, your changes will be lost.

When to use rich text vs. other editors

Use the rich text editor whenever your paste needs to look a certain way — not just contain certain words. If you're saving a support response that includes a bulleted list of steps and a linked help article, rich text is the right choice. If you're just saving a server IP address or a terminal command, plain text or code will serve you better.
