Shareable Links

Sometimes you need to share your paste library with people who don't have a PasteBase account — a freelancer, a client, a new hire who hasn't signed up yet. Shareable links make this effortless. Generate a private link, send it to anyone, and they can browse and copy your pastes immediately.

How shareable links work

Every PasteBase account has a unique access token. When you generate a shareable link, it creates a URL that includes this token. Anyone who opens the link sees a read-only view of your paste library — organized by team and category, with one-click copy on every paste. They don't need to create an account or log in.

The shared view shows all pastes across the teams you belong to. Visitors can filter by category and team, just like you do in the app. They can copy any paste with a single click, but they can't edit, delete, or create new ones.

When to use shareable links

Shareable links are ideal for situations where inviting someone to a team would be overkill or impractical:

• Onboarding new hires — share the link on day one so they can start using templates immediately, before they've created their account.
• Working with freelancers — give contractors access to the templates they need without adding them to your team permanently.
• Client handoffs — share a curated set of response templates or documentation snippets with clients who need to reference them.
• Quick sharing — send the link in a Slack message or email when someone just needs to grab a specific template.

Privacy and control

The shareable link is tied to your account's access token. Only people who have the URL can access it — it's not indexed by search engines and not discoverable by anyone who doesn't have the link. If you ever need to revoke access, you can regenerate your access token from your account settings, which invalidates the old link and creates a new one.

Since the link shows all pastes across your teams, be mindful of what's in your library before sharing. If you need to share only specific content, consider creating a dedicated team with just the pastes you want to expose, and share the link from that context.

The visitor experience

People who open your shareable link see a clean, focused interface. There's no sign-up prompt or paywall — just your pastes, organized and ready to copy. They can browse by category, switch between teams, and copy any paste with one click. The experience is designed to be immediately useful without any friction.

This makes shareable links particularly effective for teams that create templates for others to use: support teams sharing response templates with partner organizations, marketing teams sharing brand copy guidelines, or engineering teams sharing configuration snippets with external collaborators.
